NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary.



Our hosting service imposes a 4-character search minimum for database tables. We have modified our databases to support 3-character name searches.

Add 'x' to 3-character name: e.g. to search for 'coe' put 'coex' in search box, for 'fox' put 'foxx'.

To search on squadron, append 'Sqn'. Examples: '72Sqn' or '416Sqn'

Also remembered on the grave of Fred and Emma Warren at St Peter & Mary Magdalene Churchyard Extensionin Soham (not sure of connection). Enlisted in January 1941. Trained at No.1 Signal School Cranwell, then to No. 2 Signal School Yatesbury and 3 Air Gunner School Castle Kennedy. Posted to 12 Operational Training Unit at Chipping Warden in October 1942. On the 12th April 1943 further training with 1651 Heavy Conversion Unit at Waterbeach. Finally joining 75 (NZ) Squadron on the 14th of May 1943.

Son of Henry John and Ethel May Reader (née Warren), of Station Cottages, Fordham, Cambridgeshire, England.Grave inscription: 'We Thank Our God For Every Remembrance Of Him'.

Born on the 21st August 1917 at Waikino. A journalist for the Auckland Star prior to enlisting on the 18th December 1939. Son of Robert Theodore Reid and of Kathleen Lena Reid (née Gerrand), of 8 Beresford Street, Bayswater, Auckland, New Zealand. 434 flying hours logged and completed 27 operational sorties. Sadly his family suffered the loss of his younger brother, Sub/Lt. Francis Graham Reid RNZNVR. Whilst serving with 887 Squadron (FAA) flying Seafire III LR846. He went missing after crashing into the sea off Portavogie, County Down Northern Ireland during a dog fighting exercise on the Sunday, 12th March 1944.

RescuedLater: Runnymede Memorial. Panel 199Accident reportBorn on the 24th January 1918 at Rakaia. Worked as a tractor driver on his father's farm at Methven. Enlisted at Levin on the 01st December 1940 as a pilot under training. Joined No. 1 Elementary Training School on the 08th March 1941. Pilot training terminated and remustered as observer 12th March 194. Embarked for Canada on the 18th June 1941. Observer badge and promoted to sergeant on the 08th November 1941.

Embarked for England on the 08th January 1942. Further training with No. 9 Observer Advanced Flying Unit on the 01st May 1942. Attached to 11 Operational Training Unit on the 12th May 1942 carrying out 2 operational sorties. Joined 75 squadron on the 25th September 1942 then to 1657 Heavy Conversion Unit to recrew 03rd-12th June 1943.

Son of Henry Edward Harrison and Jessie Elizabeth Richards (née Tait), of Methven, Canterbury, New Zealand. 291 flying hours logged and on his 8th operational sortie.
