They state that their aircraft was shot down by enemy anti-aircraft fire, approximately ten miles NW of Rostock in the early morning of 29 Jan 1944. They had baled out of the aircraft and have no definite information regarding your son. From their statements it appears that Sgt Bothwell the rear gunner was unconscious and your son went back to pull him out of the turret. However before he was able to rescue him that section of the aircraft was struck by a heavy Flak shell and the tail was blown off. They believe that your son lost his life at that time.
