NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary.



Our hosting service imposes a 4-character search minimum for database tables. We have modified our databases to support 3-character name searches.

Born on the 03rd July 1922 at Christchurch. Worked as a messenger for P and T Department in Wellington. New Zealand Corps of Signals July 1938. Enlisted in Levin as air gunner under training on the 27th October 1940. Embarked for Canadian the 06th January 1941. Trained at No. 8 Bomber Gunnery School 18th August 1941.

Embarked for England on the 12th October 1941. Further training with No. 42 Operational Training Unit flying on the Wellington 27th May 1942, flew 1 operational sortie. Re-mustered as as air gunner on the 13th March 1942 and promoted to sergeant. 1665 Operational Training Unit 25th August flying the Sterling, flew 2 operational sorties. Joined 90 squadron on the 13th November 1942 carrying out 1 operational sorties. Assigned to 75 squadron 29th January 1943 carrying out 9 operational sorties. Son of Lt. Charles Henry (MiD NZ Rifle Brigade. Justice of the peace - died 18th June 1957, age 75) and Margaret Crawford Salt (née Boa - died 16th January 1936, age 38) of Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand.
