NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary.



Our hosting service imposes a 4-character search minimum for database tables. We have modified our databases to support 3-character name searches.

Add 'x' to 3-character name: e.g. to search for 'coe' put 'coex' in search box, for 'fox' put 'foxx'.

To search on squadron, append 'Sqn'. Examples: '72Sqn' or '416Sqn'

Air gunner badge awarded on the 22nd November 1941 and promoted to sergeant. Embarked for England on the 13th December 1941. Further training with No. 11 Operational Training Unit and 1657 Heavy Conversion Unit before joining 75 squadron on the 17th March 1943. Killed on his 8th operational sortie.

Son of William Lloyd Cross Brian (died 11th July 1937, age 44) and of Rita Brian (née Pearse - died 21st September 1931, age 36) and husband of Rona Brian (née Lukins), of Lyall Bay, Wellington, New Zealand.

His father retired farmer, late of Windsor Avenue, Hastings. In 1957 he became the 7th baronet of Crofton Place, a British title created in 1782, upon the death of his American first cousin Sir Hylton Aubrey Brisco.

Born on the 30th June 1910 at Kaeo. A self employed bookkeeper prior to service. Served 21/2 years in the territorial army. Enlisted in the RNZAF at Levin on the 22nd December er 1940, initially as an observer. Embarked for Canada on the 27th February 1941. Awarded his observer badge and promoted to sergeant on the 22nd July 1941. Received his commission on the 18th August 1941. Embarked for England on the 15th September 1941. Joined 75 squadron on the 18th May 1941 from 11 Operational Training Unit. Son of James Scotter and Margaret Broun (nee Day) of Mt. Eden, Auckland, New Zealand. total of 332 flying hours logged and on his 10th operational sortie.
