Data derived from many sources. Incorporates 125,000 entries from Aircrew Deaths 39-47 Database. Corrections/Additions welcomed via Helpdesk

NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary.

Our hosting service imposes a 4-character search minimum for database tables. We have modified our databases to support 3-character name searches.

Add 'x' to 3-character name: e.g. to search for 'coe' put 'coex' in search box, for 'fox' put 'foxx'.

If you need help, EMAIL us with name and database to search and we will perform the search manually for you.
To search on squadron, append 'Sqn'. Examples: '72Sqn' or '416Sqn'

PAFBomber Command18 OTU1942-01-30Vickers WellingtonlcN2848 -GRAF Bramcote, WarwickshireBuckden Pike, YorkshireOn 30 January 1942, a crew of six Polish airmen took off from RAF Bramcote, Warwickshire on a night cross-country training mission. Without warning, they hit a bad snowstorm. Frantically searching for landmarks they caught a faint glimpse of a town below and looped once round it. Unknowingly travelling over Skipton, Yorkshire they continued, blindly heading towards the Yorkshire Dales. The pilot was tense - he could see nothing but a screen of white light in front of him. As the snowstorm got worse the aircraft clipped a 6 foot high stone wall on the 2,302 feet high Buckden Pike and had careered several hundred feet along the ridge before stopping, the rear gunner's turret snapped clean away from the fuselage. Had the aircraft been just a few feet higher it would have cleared the peak. The rear gunner had a badly broken left ankle, the wireless operator was still alive but seriously injured but the rest of the crew had been killed in the crash. 1943-04-03BrindisiWeller 5. SOE support for Polish Home ArmyKnown as 'Orzyc' and 'Minus'. Parachutist. During the September 1939 campaign he served in the 1st Air Regiment. On September 17 he crossed the Polish-Romanian border, he was interned, from where he escaped to France, where from November 1939 to January 1940 he served in the Polish Air Force. From January 1940 he was in Great Britain, where he served as a radio operator in 300 Squadron, with whom he participated in the first, historical expedition of Polish bomber aviation from Great Britain to Germany on the night of 14 to 15 September 1940 (3 bombers from 300 and 301 Squadrons) ). In total, he made 45 operational flights.

After training for the aviation tasks in the underground, as well as in radiotelegraphy and sabotage, he was sworn in on March 4, 1943, and adopted the pseudonym 'Orzyc' and then transferred to the Main Transit Base in Brindisi, Italy.

He was dropped in Poland on the night of 3 to 4 April 1944 as part of the 'Weller 5' air operation. He was assigned to the Aviation Department of Division III of the Home Army Headquarters. A few days after the jump, on April 7, 1944, he was accidentally arrested in Warsaw. After getting out of Pawiak, he was transferred from Warsaw and assigned to the Lublin AK District. On July 18, 1944, he took a radio station from the 'Pajak' partisan detachment and, together with a five-man security service, went to the east, probably to the Lwów AK area. The details of the task are unknown.

After the Second World War, he was persecuted by the UB and harassed by frequent interrogations. He settled in the Bartoszyce commune and became the head of the elementary school in Kiertny Wielkie. After a sudden death in 1968, he was buried in the municipal cemetery in Bartoszyce at ul. Kętrzyn
