Data derived from many sources. Corrections/Additions welcomed via Helpdesk

NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary

Owing to a restriction placed by our hosting service, searches cannot be made on less than 4 characters. Searching on 3 or less will produce no results even though the name IS in our database. If you seek info on a name with less than 4 characters, EMAIL with name and database to search and we will perform the search manually for you.
We are working on techniques to mitigate this restriction.

One night in August, 1944, Flying Officer Wagman was detailed to attack Kiel and on reaching enemy territory his aircraft was engaged by anti-aircraft fire which penetrated the petrol tanks and caused a serious loss of fuel. Nevertheless, Flying Officer Wagman successfully completed his mission but was forced to bring his aircraft down on to the sea 40 miles from the English coast. This he achieved with great skill despite the failure of his landing light, and adverse weather. In hazardous circumstances this officer displayed great skill, courage and devotion to duty.

Paradie Archive DatabaseBorn on the 17th July 1922 in Salinas, California, USA. Son of Robert Hawley Wagner (died 14th January 1950, age 57) and Ida Beryl Wagner (née Lazier - died in 1971, age 78), of Napanee, Ontario, Canada. His older brother, Richard, was two years older. The family lived in North Hollywood while their father, Bob, worked for Warner Bros. The entire family - Billy's uncles and cousins - were in the motion picture business. Richard joined the US Army in 1942, but Billy was living in Napanee by the end of the 1930’s when his parents moved back to their original home. He joined the Royal Bank of Canada, and, as you know, joined the RCAF on November 30th, 1942, against his parents wishes. The only personal titbit about Billy in the RCAF was told to me by his brother many years ago. Billy flew a total of 11 missions, but each mission was exceedingly difficult for him to fly. He admitted to his brother, while they were on leave in New York City in 1944, that he faked illness to get out of one mission. Apparently this was not uncommon among bomber crews. The last thing he told his brother before he parted was that he believed he was never coming back. It was the last time Richard saw his brother. Billy was declared missing in action. His parents never knew of his fate, although they firmly believed he was alive, until he was officially declared killed in action in December 1945. 10 Operations - with 53.10 operational flying hours logged.
