NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary.

Our hosting service imposes a 4-character search minimum for database tables. We have modified our databases to support 3-character name searches.

Add 'x' to 3-character name: e.g. to search for 'coe' put 'coex' in search box, for 'fox' put 'foxx'.

If you need help, EMAIL us with name and database to search and we will perform the search manually for you.
To search on squadron, append 'Sqn'. Examples: '72Sqn' or '416Sqn'

Paradie Archive DatabaseFlt Sgt Warren awarded DFM whilst with 15 Sqn. London Gazette 12th January 1943. Citation: "Can/R 83335 Flight Sergeant William Desbro MACMONAGLE, Royal Canadian Air Force, No 15 Squadron Can/R 114511 Flight Sergeant Earle Freeman WARREN, Royal Canadian Air Force, No 15 Squadron. In December, 1942, Flight Sergeants MacMonagle and Warren were captain and mid upper gunner respectively of an aircraft detailed to attack a target in Germany When approaching the target, their aircraft was intercepted and severely damaged by fire from two Messerschmitt 110's. Flight Sergeant Warren although seriously wounded shot one of the fighters down in flames By skilful evasive tactics the remaining attacker was eluded and the target successfully bombed. On the return flight another Messerschmitt now attacked and further damage was inflicted on the bomber The attack was again beaten off and Flight Sergeant MacMonagle flew the disabled aircraft safely back to base. Throughout this hazardous operation these airmen displayed great coolness and courage".

Fg Off. Warren initially buried in Le Fidelaire Communal Cemetery. Reinterred 27th July 1945.

1944-01-20HalifaxVLL176ZL-QLeeming2000MagdeburgDuring an exhumation trip in the Soviet Zone Kreis Calbe, a visit was made to the town Gloethe to exhume 6 unknown English fliers, exhumation proved the identity of the crew of Halifax LL176 and the following information obtained regarding the crash. Information was supplied by the former Burgomeister of Gloethe and it was to the effect that during the night of 21/22 January 1944 at approximately 2300 a four engined was seen engaged with a German night fighter. The bomber burst into flames and crashed 1km North of the town (Gloethe), the aircraft exploded on impact and wreckage was scattered over an area of 500m. 6 bodies were recovered from the wreckage and it was stated that a seventh crew member was taken as a PoW. The six dead were placed into two coffins and buried at Gloethe Cemtery. A cross was erected at the head of the grave and it bore the following inscription: ”6 Kanadische Piloten 21.1.1944" (Extract from report by Flt Lt John R Hughes DFM No.4 MREU dated 6 September 1948)KilledBerlin 19Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery Plot 2 Row K Grave 2039-1945 War Cemetery

1945-01-03LiberatorKH214D13:35Attack Bridge 19 Burma-Siam Railway Hit by anti aircraft fire. Crashed into jungle Killed Age 23Singapore Memorial Column 457.
Archive Report KH214

Commenced operations on 13 December, bombing bridge 286 at Nakorn Chaisri, On 1 January 1945 they bombed the Bangkok railway bridge at Anakwin, and two days later attacked Bridge 19 on the Burma-Siam Railway. Killed in action during this operation when Liberator KH214 was shot down and crashed into dense jungle. All the crew were killed. The Squadron O.R.B. states: ‘Aircraft “D” at 1335 hours at 400 feet was seen to be hit by bursting LAA and crashed just NE of the bridge at Milestone 37.’

Eddie Gilbert, one of the pilots who was on the raid: “I saw Brodie crash you know. Three of us went after the same bridge and a locomotive stopped halfway across. It was in a valley, steep hills on both sides. We were five hundred feet, lower than the hills, Wallace the Fiji guy, went in first. Steve followed him and I was right behind. There were gun positions on the hills, both sides of the bridge. They hit Wallace, then they got Steve, hit his number 4. I could see the flames. Steve and Murray did a good job, everything they could, jettisoned the bombs, got the prop feathered, as fast as anyone could. They tried to climb but there wasn’t room. Hit the top of a hill just one big explosion”.’
