NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary.

Son of Blanche Harriet Humphrey, ward of Alice Bosworth Bennewith (later Boorer) of Timaru, South Island, New Zealand. A total of 290 flying hours logged with 26 on the Hurricane.

They were flying SE when it struck a glancing blow on the lower slopes of The Cheviot at an altitude of 1,500ft which was obscured by a blanket of low snow clouds. The a/c immediately caught fire and Sgt Irving was killed on impact.Died of injuries on the 16 January 1942Chevington Cemetery Section H Grave 283. Joined No. 42 Operational Training Unit at Andover, Hampshire on the 06th January 1942. and promoted to the rank of Sergeant. A total of 11 flying hours logged.

Son of James Steen Hunter (died 09th July 1946, age 73) and Hilda Hunter (née McKenze - 31st July 1973 93) of Tukutai Avenue, Bucklands Beach, Auckland, New Zealand. His 2nd name sometimes recorded as Crawford.

Enlisted at the Initial Training wing, Levin on the 02nd March 1941. Trained in Canada at No. 10 Service Plying Trainine School, Dauphin, Manitoba in June 1941. Obtained his Air-Observers Badge on the 12th August 1941. On September 28th he was posted to No. 6 Air Observers School, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

Son of Cyril Arthur and Doris Aplin Ibbotson (née Gaby), of Auckland City, New Zealand.
