RNLI reports for W5155 states that the four fishing boats that responded found an empty rubber dinghy, a dead body and a severely injured man who died. So one crew man died after being recovered. I have his name as Sgt B Carter from the Form 1180. Of the Lysander crew, Sgt. Carter (Pilot) and 1068412 AC Dickinson (Towed Target Operator) were injured. August 18th 1942 Botha aircraft W5155 and Lysander T.1506 collided in the air. Botha crashed into the seas – Lysander burnt out. Of the Botha crew, 784064 Sgt. Myszkowski (Pilot) and 1385647 LAC Emberson (u/t AG) were killed. 13714630 LAC Elliott, 1394166 A C Curtis and 1339452 AC Whiting missing, believed killed. Salvage authorities report that recovery of the aircraft has been found impossible and the bodies are presumed to be still on board. Of the Lysander crew, Sgt. Carter (Pilot) and 1068412 AC Dickinson (Towed Target Operator) were injured. A court of Enquiry has been held in connection with this accident. First fatal accident occurred over the sea near Amble range. One Botha crashed into the sea – no survivors.
