On August 12, 1942 HX384 took off from Dale airfield. The airport runway is on a high coastal bluff towards the sea. The weather was not favourable to the pilots that day with strong winds. After reaching the end of the runway, the bomb-laden Wellington could not enter the air. The plane fell into the water and exploded. All crew perished. Dale, near Haverfordwest. Jerzy B Cynk, in 'The PAF at War' states that this Halifax wreck is almost certainly JP295 as it is the only Polish Halifax unaccounted for. He also says that 'confusing contemporary reports from the Polish Underground linked the Branica wreckage with Liberator EW275, brought down in nearby Olszyny, ten nights earlier.
