NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary.

Born on the 02nd December 1922 in Napier. Educated at Napier Boys High School. A clerk for Richardson and Company in Napier. Enlisted at Levin as a pilot under training on the 21st December 1941. Hospital and sick leave 22nd January - 12th February 1942.

With No. 3 Elementary Flying Training School 05th April 1942. No. 2 Service Flying Training School 13th June 1942. Pilot badge awarded on the 18th September 1942 and promoted to sergeant on the 28th November 1942. No. 2 Operational Training Unit on the 05th December 1942 for conversion training on the P-40 Warhawk. 260 solo flying hours logged with 198 on the Harvard.

Born in Westport on January lst 1914. Educated at the Westport Primary School. After leaving school he became a carpenter, employed as Foreman-carpenter by C.S, Luney Ltd at New Plymouth. From Levin he went to No. 3 Wireless School, Canada on the 14th August 1941 and then to No. 7 Bombing and Gunnery School at Paulson, Canada.

Awarded his Air Gunners Badge on the 11th June 1942, and was granted a temporary Commission to Pilot Officer in May 1942. Joined 7 General Reconnaissance Squadron at Waipapakauri and was commissioned as Flying Officer on the 29th October 1942. 137 flying hours logged.

Son of William (died 04th June 1924, age 56) and Ellen Gunn Dent (married 20th December 1892. née Broadfoot - died 17th May 1954, age 86), of 208 Devon Street West, New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand.

To Milson on the 05th March 1942 (suburb of Palmerston North, Manawatū-Whanganui, New Zealand. Re-mustered as a driver on the 07th March 1942.

Re-mustered as a pilot under training on the 04th September 1942. No. 2 Elementary Flying Training School on the 12th October 1942 (sick leave 09th December-26th January 1943. 1st solo flight on the 05th February 1943. With No. 2 Service Flying Training School 06th February 1943. Pilots badge awarded on the 12th April 1943. Promoted to sergeant on the 05th Jone 1953. No. 2 Operational Training Unit 12th June 1943 flying the P-40. Joined 17 squadron on the 10th July 1943.

Son of Clifford John (died 03rd July 1973, age 93) and Ida Mary Dickie (née Blennerhassett - died 12th July 1980, age 88). Brother of Arthur John Dickie (born on the 28th August 1912 - died 02nd September 2010, age 98).
