NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary.

Born on the 15th November 1921, in Dannevirke. Son of John Terence and Mercie Franklin. Worked as a farmed near Woodville until joining the RNZAF on the 30th November 1940. Member of the 'Caterpillar' and 'Late Arrivals' clubs Transferred to the reserve on the 24th April 1946. Retired from reserve on the 31st May 1955. After the war settled with his wife and bought a dairy farm in Aranui Rd, Kairanga. Died at the early age of 56 on the 25th October 1978. Cremated on the 23rd October and ashes left at Kelvin Grove Cemetery, Palmerston North.

Croix de Guerre with Silver Star (Fr) Awarded on the 05th June 1946.

'Between 6th June and 22nd August 1944 F/O. Kearins carried out over 60 offensive sorties sorties on a great variety of missions. On three separate occasions he was by his cool airmanship able to bring damaged aircraft back to base. He has destroyed a number of transports. Prior to the above dates he was shot down over France and made a daring escape, bringing with him a number of airmen'.

Born on the 22nd May 1921 at Leamington, Cambridge. Worked as a drapers assistant for the Auckland Farmers Co-op. Enlisted as an Aircraft-hand on the 20th September 1939 at Ohakea. Obtained pilots badge and the rank of sergeant on the 07th November 1941 after training in Canada. Son of Clarence John Kelly and of Kathrine Jessie Kelly (née Hall), of Leamington, Cambridge, Auckland, New Zealand. Conversion training at 59 Operational Training Unit from 29th December 1941 - 01st February 1942. Joined 167 Squadron on the 17th April 1942 then to 1435 Flight (later designated as a Squadron) 263 Flying hours logged and having completed 5 operational sorties. Flew Spitfire VB EP260 off HMS. Eagle to Malta on the 20th July 1942.

Born on the 07th May 1917 at Dunedin. Prior to enlisting he had been a teacher at Mackandrew Bay School. Enlisting at Levin on the 12th March 1940 after serving with the territorial army. Trained with No. 1 Flying aTraining School and awarded his pilots badge on the 27th July 1940 and promoted to sergeant on the 21st September 1940. 06th December 1940 embarked for England and had further training with 56 Operational Training Unit. Joined 247 squadron on the 24th January 1941. Son of George Arthur and Mary Muriel Kelly (nee Cameron), of Gore, Southland, New Zealand. Brother of Ida and Joyce Kelly. A total of 203 flying hours logged and completed 10 operational sorties.

Born 0n the 25th July 1925 at Takapau. Worked as a farm hand on his fathers farm at Aukopae prior to service. Enlisted at Ommaka on the 08th January 1943. Trained at No. 1 Elementary Flying Training School on 29th May 1943. On the 22nd July 1943 attached to No. 1 Service Flying Training School.

Pilots badge awarded om the 27th September 1943and promoted to sergeant on the 20th November 1943. Embarked for England on the 03rd January 1943After swelling in various units further trying at 51 Operational Training Unit joining on the 09th January 1945. Finally joining 12 Ferry Unit in May 1945.

Son of William Hillary Kendall (died 14th June 1963, age 65) and Rosalie McGregor Kendall (nee Cameron - died 07th March 1983, age 79), of Palmerston North, Wellington, New Zealand. Note that on his enlistment papers he had listed his birth year as 1924! A total of 392 flying hours logged.

Enlisted on the 24th October 1942 at Whenuapi. Pilot badge awarded and promoted to sergeant on the 26th November 1943 and also commissioned. With No 2 Instructor Flying School in February 1944. A instructor with 12 Service Flying Training School on the 18th February 1944. Joined 8 Operational Training Unit as an instructor on the 28th February 1945. A total of 1119 flying hours logged with 44 of these solo on the Mosquito.
