NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary.

Pilot badge awarded on the 07th August 1942 and promoted to sergeant on the 02nd May 1942. Posted to 14 squadron on the 02nd November 1942, A total of 137 flying hours with 5 on the Kittyhawk.

Born on the 01st Oct 1922 at Kaeo, Northland. Worked as an labourer on his fathers farm at Taupaki prior to service. Enlisted at Whenuapai on the 20th January 1942. Initial training at No. 1 Elementary Flying Training School. Embarked for Canada on the 24th December 1942. Trained at No. 6 Service Flying Training School attached on the 07th February 1943.

Pilots badge awarded on the 28th May 1943 and promoted to sergeant. Embarked for England on the 23rd June 1943. Further training at No. 3 Elementary Flying Training School prior to joining joining 73 Pilots Advanced Flying Unit on the23rd August 1943. Posted to No. 17 Operational Training Unit after embarking for Egypt on the 25th March 1944. After serving in No. 5 Refresher Flying Unit and other holding units joined 601 squadron on the 22nd September 1944.

Awarded his pilots badge on the 24th April 1942.Embarked for England on the 10th May 1942. Further training with various units before going No. 3 (C) Operational Training Unit. Injured flying an Anson on the 23rd December 1942 in a landing accident.

Further training with 132 Operational Training Unit . and 5 (C) Operational Training Unit before joining 489 squadron on the 31st May 1944. Son of Richard Sheridan (died 24th July 1957, age 77)and Catherine Leslie (nee Gibson - died 02nd August 1971, age 87), of 6 Cashel Street, Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. A total of 106 flying hours logged and on his 25th operational sortie.

Born 30th October 1921 at Dunedin. Worked as a butcher for Edward Bolwell of St Clair, t Dunedin prior to service. Enlisted at Rotorua on the 08th March 1942. No. 1 Elementary Flying Training School on the 13th June 1942 (first solo on the 27th June 1942) and then to No. 2 Service Flying Training School on the 05th September 1942.

Pilots badge awarded on the 30th November 1942 and promoted to sergeant on the 06th February 1943. Embarked for England on the 09th March 1943. Further training with various units before joining 59 Operational Training Unit on the 21st September 1943. Attached to Flight Leaders School 01-19th February 1944. Awarded his commission on the 22nd April 1945.

Joined 182 squadron on the 20th July 1944. Son of Thomas James Lethaby (died 30th November 1979, age 62) and Mary Lethaby (nee Reeves), Kensington, Otago, New Zealand. A total of 687 flying hours logged with 216 on the Typhoon. Completed 100 plus operational sorties. He was the last New Zealand airman to lose his life prior to VJ Day.

Served 3 months on territorial army before enlisting at Waipapakauri as aircraft hand on the 30th May 1942. Re-mustered as a pilot under training on 26th November 1942. With No. 3 Elementary Flying Training School 06th February 1943. No. 2 Service Flying Training School on the 03rd April 1943. Pilot badge awarded on the 07th June 1943 and commissioned on the 31st July 1943. With No. 2 Elementary Flying Training School as flying instructor on the 18th October 1943. A total of 235 flying hours logged with 149 on the Tiger Moth.

The son of Harold Reginald (died 26th January 1973, age 81) and Irene Gladys Levet (née Potter - died 11th February 1969, age 77), of 3, Seaview Terrace, Mount Albert, Auckland City, New Zealand. Thomas, was lost without trace whilst on a mine-laying sortie off the Fresian islands, on 5-6 July 1943. All the crew were killed. Reliable reports from the Dutch said that the aircraft had been shot down by a night fighter over the sea, 12 miles North West of Terscherlling (the middle island of the Southern Frisian Group) at approximately 02:31 hours. The night fighter was captained by Oblt. Georg-Hermann Grenier, of IV/NJG1, this was his sixth kill out of a total of 51. The kill is confirmed in Grenier’s war records.
