NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary.

Born on the 22nd February 1913 in Palmerston North. Attended Wanganui Technical College. Worked as a clerk for Castlecliff Railway Company in Whanganui. Served 6 months in territorial army. Enlisted at Levin on the 28th July 1940 as a pilot under training. With No. 3 Elementary Flying Training School 25th August 1940. Pilot training terminated in September 1940 and remastered as an observer on the 08th October 1940. Embarked for Canada on the 05th November 1940. Observer badge awarded on the 01st May 1941 and awarded his commission.

Embarked for England 05th June 1941. 12 Operational Training Unit 07th July 1941. Attached to 75 squadron 22ns September 1941. Completed 9 operational sorties. Son of Samuel Edgar Lloyd and of Lilian May Lloyd (née Toms), of Fordell, Wellington, New Zealand. His brother 20 year old, Fl/Sgt. Raymond Edgar Lloyd NZ/403608 also lost his life on the 19th April 1942 whilst with 37 squadron. A total of 272 flying hours logged.

The crews remains were given full military honours by an RAF Guard of Honour and were committed to the sea between St. Kilda and the island of Boreray. Rev Macleod read the burial service. Born on the 08th October 1921 at Wellington. Worked as a warehouseman for Johnson an Company prior to service. Served 18 months in the territorial army before enlisting in the RNZAF on the 10th February 1941. Embarked for Canada on the 20th October 1941. Awarded his air gunner badge and promoted to sergeant on the 20th July 1942. Embarked for England on the 12th December 1942. After serving in various units joined 302 Ferry Training Unit on the 22nd May 1944. Son of Richard John and Minnie Lloyd (nee Smith), of Miramar, Wellington, New Zealand and husband of Muriel Elizabeth Lloyd (nee Freeman), of Lowestoft, Suffolk, England.

Born on the 02nd October 1921 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Moved tp New Zealand in around 1930. Educated at Rongota College. A shipping and customs clerk for W.D and H.O Wills Limited in Wellington. Served 6 months in New Zealand territorial army. Enlisted in the RNZAF at New Plymouth on the 11th July 1942. Trained at No. 3 Elementary Flying Training School on the 06th February 1943 and No. 2 Service Flying Training School on the on the 03rd April 1943. Pilot badge awarded on the 07th June 1943 and promoted to sergeant on the 31st July 1943. Embaked for England on the 21st August 1943. With No. 12 Personnel Reception Centre on the 15th October 1943. Awarded commission on the 23rd February 1945. Joined 550 squadron the the 13th March 1945.

Son of John Adams Lockyer (died 15th November 1957, age 59) and Gertrude Lockyer (née Stuart - died 18th July 1967, age 69), of Wellington City, New Zealand. Total of 527 hours logged and completed a single operational sortie before he was killed.

Also remembered on his mothers grave at Ward Flaxbourne Cemetery. Born on the 25th April 1921 at Blenheim. Worked as a silversmith for Levin and Company, Blenheim prior to service. Enlisted on the 21st December 1941 after serving in the territorial army for 2 years. Attached to No. 3 Elementary Flying Training School on the 08th February 1942, involved in a landing accident on the 03rd March 1942, no injuries. Embarked for Canada on the 11th april 1942. Further training with No. 2 Service Flying Training School . Awarded his pilots badge on the 28th August 1942 and promoted to sergeant. 28th October 1942 embarked for England.

Attached to 53 Operational Training Unit on the 09th February 1942. After serving with various units joined 126 squadron on the 25th November 1943. Awarded his commission on the 15th September 1944.

Son of Alfred Frederick (died 10th July 1975, age 93) and Annie Christine Loe(née Murray - died 09th December 1961, age 77) both buried at Ward Flaxbourne Cemetery, of Ward, Marlborough, New Zealand. A total of 651 flying hours logged and completed 92 operational sorties. Three brothers also served. 22 year old Trooper Albert Gilbert Francis Loe 17265 of the New Zealand Armoured Corp, was killed on the 02nd November 1942 during the battle of El Alamain. Following the death of the second son the family insisted that navigator James Lawrence Rivers Loe NZ/438938 RNZAF be returned home following his training in Canada. He now honours his brothers every Anzac day.
