NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary.



Our hosting service imposes a 4-character search minimum for database tables. We have modified our databases to support 3-character name searches.

Add 'x' to 3-character name: e.g. to search for 'coe' put 'coex' in search box, for 'fox' put 'foxx'.

Born on the 23rd July 1917 in New Plymouth. Worked as an accounts clerk for Fairburn and Falconer in Wanganui. Worked his passage to England in May 1938. Employed with Vickers Armstrong Ltd in the erection shop for the Wellington bombers. from July - September 1938. Returned to New Zealand and joined Wanganui Aero Club in August 1939. Enlisted as a pilot under training at Levin on the 26th October 1939. Trained with Mo. 2 Elementary Flying Training School 20th November 1939. No. 2 Flying Training School 15th January 1940. Pilot badge awarded on the 23rd April 1940 and commissioned on the 28th May 1940.

Embarked for England on the 06th June 1940. Further training with 7 Operational Training Unit flying the Spitfire on the 04th August 1940. To 15 Operational Training Unit flying the Wellington on the 12th August 1940. Finally joining 75 squadron on the 04th October 1940 when he completed 23 operational sorties. Son of William Mowat Falconer (died 18th November 1971, age 82) and Helen Francis Falconer (née Gibson - died 29th March 1941, age 51), of 43 Great North Road, St. Johns Hill, Wanganui, Wellington, New Zealand. A total of 384 flying hours logged.

Born on the 06th January 1923 at Wellington. Worked as a assistant store man for Tollet and Son prior to service. Enlisted in the RNZAF at Levin on the 13th April 1941, initially as a pilot under training but re-mustered as an air gunner under training on the 24th June 1941. Embarked for Canada on the 14th August 1941. Wireless operator/Air gunner badge awarded and promoted to sergeant on the 16th March 1942. Embarked for England on the 01st April 1942. Joined 75 squadron from 11 Operational Training Unit on the 20th September 1942. Son of Ernest John Firth and of Gladys Mary Woods Firth (nee Collins), of Rex Street, Mirimar, Wellington, New Zealand. A total of 176 flying hours logged and on his 04th operational sortie.
