NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary.

On the 30th November he was awarded the flying badge and promoted to Sergeant on the 6th February 1943. Pilot Officer on the 30th July 1944. On the 9th March 1943, he had embarked for the United Kingdom. Arrived at No.11 Personnel Despatch and Reception Centre, Bournemouth, on the 12th April, moving to No.12 Royal New Zealand Air Force Centre at Brighton on the 31st May. In June he commenced flying at No.7 (Pilots) Advanced Flying Unit, Peterborough. On the 14th September was posted to No. 56 Operational Training Unit, Dundee, No. 59 Operational Training Unit, Milfield, Returning to Tealing, Dundee. On the 5th April 1944 was posted to No.3 Tactical Exercise Unit, Annan, Scotland, again flying Hurricane aircraft. During May he served at Dalton, Yorkshire, and on the 12th June proceeded to No.3 Tactical Exercise Unit at Honiley and later at Cronfield, where he converted to Typhoon and then Tempest, before posting on the 26th July to No.486 Squadron at Follestone, Kent. Embarked for England on the 19th May 1941 and arriving on the 04th July 1941. Based at HMS Daedalus at Lee-on-Solent. Embarked for training in Canada on the 17th November 1941. Pilots badge awarded and received his commission on the 27th March 1942. Embarked for England on the 25th May 1942. Attached to 785 squadron on a Torpedo Reconnaissance course on the 01st June 1942. Attached to 818 squadron flying the Swordfish on the carrier HMS Unicorn from 24th March - 12th October 1943. Joined 838 squadron after it had reformed on the 01st November 1943. Embarked on carrier HMS Nairana between17th December 1943 - 15th January 1944. Son of Warwick St. George Ruxton and Merthyr Tydvil Winfred Wilson (née Lewis), of 112 Remuera Rd, Auckland, New Zealand. One brother 22 year old, Fl/Sgt. Warwick St George Ruxton Wilson NZ/404438 RNZAF was killed on the 18th April 1942 whilst with 57 Squadron. His other brother 2nd. Lt. Keith Noel Ruxton Wilson 377379 New Zealand Artillery survived the war, passing away on the 10th June 2013, age 91. One sister, Elizabeth Ann Ruxton Wilson also served as a clerk in the WAAF. Enlisted on the 18th January 1941 at Levin. Trained with 2 EFTS and awarded his pilots badge on the 24th May 1941, promoted to sergeant on the 05th July 1941. Embarked for Singapore on the 22nd July 1941 and joined 243 squadron flying the Buffalo. Thought he was responsible for the first enemy aircraft to be shot down by his squadron. He was awarded the DFM for his service in Singapore. Evacuated to India on the 21st March 1942. Served with 21, 453, 5 and 67 squadrons flying mixture of aircraft including the Buffal, Mohawk and the Hurricane. Embarked for England in June. He joined 485 squadron 13th August 1943 from 53 Operational Training Unit. Son of Motu Tamihana and Ngamata Paenga (née Lowrie) of Lower Mangoret, New Plymouth, New Zealand. Credited with 3 enemy aircraft destroyed and sharing 3 others. (Some publications write it was 5 enemy aircraft destroyed) It is known he completed 26 operational sorties with 485 squadron but unknown his total number with the other units. DFM Citation: 'Sergeant Wipiti carried out a large number of operational flights against the enemy and displayed outstanding courage and determination whilst engaging large formations of enemy aircraft. He set a fine example to all'. After the war, his parents were presented with their son's DFM by the Governor-General of New Zealand, Sir Cyril Newall, in a ceremony at Government House in Wellington.
