This data is constantly being updated and enhanced by Captain François Dutil RCAF
Further RCAF information is on our Pages Relating to Canada and our RCAF Notes Database and in the RCAF section of our Allied Losses and Incidents Database

This database lists all known RCAF flying-related personnel who served 1939 - 1945 and onwards in many cases.
You may also want to check RCAF entries in the Allied Losses and Incidents Database.
(1) Check Spelling Names link
(2) To search for 3-character names add 'x' to name e.g. for 'coe' search for 'coex'

In November 2017 François Dutil began adding extensive information and many images from his research files,
for which we are grateful. Please contact us via our Helpdesk if you have additional information or images.
"Conversion from the original data held as images of old teletype sheets must have taken Major Paradie years.
The Paradie database is as close to a treasure as the World will see.” François Dutil

DUPLICATES EXIST IN THIS DATABASE
We have integrated entries from several databases in the Paradie Archive and as a result there may be more than one entry for a given individual. To ensure you read all the data we have on a person, use the Service Number (without the prefix J/ P/ R/ etc.) to perform a further search for more information on that person.
DATA ALIGNMENT IN PROCESS OF BEING ADJUSTED
Owing to problems with encoding methods, some records require manual adjustment to bring data elements within the record into alignment. This is a lengthy and ongoing process. If the record you are looking at is hard to read, it means we have yet to make the appropriate manual adjustments, so send us a message via the Helpdesk and we will correct that record.
SEARCHING ON SERIAL NUMBERS
Most records were originally encoded with aircraft serial numbers in the format AB 123. The standard is to use the format AB123. We have a long term project underway to change all serial numbers to the standard form, but with 50,000+ records this is a long process.
If you would like our team to research a family member or friend who appears in this database, contact us via the Helpdesk. We will send you instructions.

Our hosting service imposes a 4-character search minimum for database tables. We have modified our databases to support 3-character name searches.

Add 'x' to 3-character name: e.g. to search for 'coe' put 'coex' in search box, for 'fox' put 'foxx'.

If you need help, EMAIL us with name and database to search and we will perform the search manually for you.
To search on squadron, append 'Sqn'. Examples: '72Sqn' or '416Sqn'

Enter Your search conditions and click Search This
Searching for a 3-character name requires special treatment

These are the results of your search:

Commemorated Dieppe Canadian War Cemetery, Hautot-Sur-Mer, H. 45. France.

A Typhoon fighter, subscribed for by the Borough of Sutton & Cheam, recently had a swastika painted on its fuselage to mark its first success in combat with an ME.109. A Canadian pilot - Flight Lieutenant Walter Ahrens of Rosetown, Saskatchewan, Canada, who was flying the 'Borough of Sutton and Cheam' engaged the enemy aircraft. Another Typhoon pilot in his squadron also took a hand, and the German aircraft blew up and fell in pieces into the sea. The 'Borough of Sutton and Cheam' has been flown by Flight Lieutenant Ahrens fifty time, and the pilot says it is a lucky aircraft.

(Photo: 18 January 1942 408 Canadian Bomber Squadron. P/O W.B. Brown, from Victoria, B.C., pilot of a Hampden, succeeded in bringing back their Hampden Bomber on one engine. When on a raid over Germany, the bomb doors failed to open on 2 runs over the target in intense AA fire. After abandoning the target, the bomb doors suddenly opened. The bombs were dropped and after passing through another heavy barrage of AA fire, one engine ceased to operate. The aircraft was brought home on one engine and a good landing made on reaching base.)

Monument, Bleskengraaf Holland
PoWPLT109Sqn

Mosquito lV DZ432 HS-NOn May 27, 1943 between 22.30 and 0.00 hour the crew of the DZ432 took off from air base Wyton in England for a Pathfinder mission to bomb Essen. The plane was taking the lead in front of a main force of a huge attack on Essen with a total number of 518 different planes. The task of the Mosquito was to mark the target. The mission was executed by 274 Lancasters, 151 Halifaxes, 81 Wellingtons and 12 Mosquitos. 23 planes were lost, of which the Mosquito was one.

This monument was erected to remember navigator Flight Sergeant Ray Hutchings Logan and and pilot Flight Sergeant Cameron Kent Chrysler, both of the Royal Canadian Air Force. In the night of 27 to 28 May 1943 they were shot down by a German night fighter around 01.54 AM. They were on their way home after a target marking mission over the German town of Essen. The next morning, the villagers found the corps of Flt/Sgt Logan in a ditch. Fl/Sgt Chrysler survived the crash and the two were moved to Rotterdam on the same day. The Germans buried Fl/Sgt Logan on the cemetary at Rotterdam Crooswijk. Cameron Kent (Fritz) Chrysler survived the war and returned home safely. 62 Years later on 2 May 2005 he returned to Bleskensgraaf for a short visit. Their plane, a British De Havilland Mosquito Bomber Mark IV registration DZ432 HS-N, exploded high in the sky following which the debris came down scattered over a large area in these surroundings. The remains were cleared by the Germans, but they missed this propeller which was found in the pasture next to the memorial.

Their plane, a British De Havilland Mosquito Bomber Mark IV registration DXZ432 HS-N, exploded high in the sky following which the debris came down scattered over a large area in these surroundings. The remains were cleared by the Germans, but they missed this propeller which was found in the pasture next to the memorial.
Took off from Wyton. Pilot C K 'Fritz' Chrysler (taken PoW) Commemorated Rotterdam (Crooswijk) General Cemetery, Plot Ll. Row 1. Grave 40. Netherlands (Holland). See Cameron Chrysler

Battle of Britain. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, he was a medical student before joining the RAF on a short service commission in 1939. On 6 November he joined 242Sqn. In the fighting over France in May and June 1940, on attachment with 607 and 615Sqns and with 242, McKnight destroyed 11 enemy aircraft, probably destroyed another and damaged two more. Immediate DFC on 4 June. During the Battle of Britain, McKnight continued to be prolific in shooting down enemy aircraft. On 8 October he was awarded a bar to his DFC and, on 6 November, he was promoted to Flying Officer. McKnight was killed on 12 January 1941: in company with Pilot Officer M K Brown, on a Rhubarb operation [using cloud cover to fly at low level and seek targets of opportunity such as trains and troop concentrations]. They crossed the French coast near Gravelines and strafed enemy troops. As they turned to make a second attack, a Bf 109 was seen, at 500 feet. Brown attacked the troops but when he looked for McKnight, he had vanished. He did not return to base and either fell to the flak or the Bf 109.

Born Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1918. Commissioned in RAF in 1939. Posted to 615Sqn in May 1940 in France. 19 May 1940 shot down his first. Transferred 242Sqn and involved in fierce fighting over Dunkirk where he claimed 8 kills (possibly 10). DFC. On 30 August 1940 he shot down 3 Bf 110s. He had 4 more kills in September and a Bf 109 in November. Bar to his DFC. KIA 12 January 1941 in Hurricane I (P2961) by a Bf 109 on a fighter sweep over France. Runnymede Age 22
