Conjoined by War

They held hands like life lines these two, brother and sister, evacuees

Clamped like bulldog’s jaws, looking after each other like guardian angels.

Had their train been hit by a bombing raid’

If nothing else found but those two hands’

They would still be gripping each other tightly.
