REASON FOR LOSS:
During formation flying exercise at 13:50 hrs. entered close cloud when N2428 lost contact with the others.
The Hurricane was later fond to have crashed and caught fire 3 miles south of Shankend. The young New Zealand pilot lost his life.
Burial and personal details:
Sgt. Donald Fraser. Carlisle Cemetery (Dalston Road). Ward 11. Sec. P. Grave 33. Born on the 17th July 1920 at Auckland. Prior to service worked as a clerk for Bond and Bond Ltd. Enlisted on the 06th July 1941 at Levin. Awarded his pilots badge and proved to sergeant on the 20th December 1941. Joined 59 OTU on the 12th May 1942. Son of Peter and Elfreda Mary Fraser (née Austin), of Richmond, Auckland, New Zealand. 206 flying hours logged with 112 solo and 24 on the Hurricane.
