P/O. John Robert Bryan Williams DFC 178949 RAFVR

Born: Merthyr Tydfil 1921. Died: 25th May 2013. Age 91

“The Distinguished Flying Cross has been awarded to Pilot Officer John Robert Bryan Williams, RAFVR, No 76 Squadron, whose home is at Hull

The award is in recognition of gallantry and devotion to duty, Pilot Officer Williams having displayed the utmost fortitude and courage in operations against the enemy.

Pilot Officer Williams was born in 1921 at Merthyr Tydfil and educated at Middleton Street School, Hull. After service in the ranks he was commissioned in 1944. Served as Wireless Operator Air Gunner.

Dad married my Mum, Susan in 1968. I was born in 1969 and then my brother in 1971. Dad had 4 children 2 (Martin and Janet) with his first wife Peggy who passed away.

Worked in the Police and then Local government until he retired.

A grandfather of 4 and loved his dogs too. A member of the RAF Association, played Golf, but in the last 10 years of his life his health deteriorated and Mum retired to become his full-time carer.
