REASON FOR LOSS:

Took off from R.A.F. Wellesbourne Mountford, Warwickshire on a routine navigation exercise which by all reports went well until they started to return to the airfield when on final approach a pin in one of the flaps snapped.

The pilot made a heroic effort to overshoot and to try and regain some height but lost control when the Wellington stalled between 100 and 150 ft. The aircraft crashed at around 12.37 hrs. killing all on board.
