On 3rd January 1943, a Martin Marauder Mk. Ia serial FK375 coded 'D' 'Dominion Revenge' of 14 Squadron RAF based at RAF Shallufa in Egypt was conducting a torpedo attack operation in the Aegean Sea. The aircraft was piloted by Lieutenant Bruce W. Young of the South African Air Force (service number 103095V) with Flight Sergeant Edward Arthur Meadwell as pilot 2. During the operation, the aircraft was lost over the Aegean Sea. Young survived and became a prisoner of war, being held at Stalag Luft

On 21st and 22nd January 1944, Halifax V LK922 of 76 Squadron, coded MP-L, was engaged in Operation Magdeburg, a bombing raid on Magdeburg, Germany. The aircraft was based at RAF Holme-on-Spalding-Moor in Yorkshire and was piloted by Flight Sergeant Henry Boyes, aged 31, of the RAFVR. The Halifax was shot down over Erxleben, Helmstedt, Germany. On 30th-31st July 1941, Handley Page Hampden I serial AD916 of 83 Squadron RAF, based at Scampton in Lincolnshire, departed on Operation Düsseldorf. The aircraft was piloted by Flight Lieutenant Neil Hyland Svendsen DFC, with Second Pilot Flying Officer Desmond Irving, and Observer/Air Bomber Flying Officer Stanley Carter on board.
