Friedrich Alpers (25 March 1901 – 3 September 1944) was a German Nazi politician and SS-Obergruppenführer. He was also a Minister of the Free State of Brunswick,[2] and Generalforstmeister (General forest supervisor). Alpers was responsible for numerous political crimes in Brunswick. Alpers committed suicide in 1944, while in US custody. NSDAP and SS career Born in 1901, Alpers studied law and political science at the Heidelberg University, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and University of Greifswald. He became a lawyer in 1929. In June 1929, Alpers joined the Nazi Party (NSDAP membership number 132,812). In May 1930 he joined the Sturmabteilung (SA). On 1 March 1931 he joined the SS (membership number 6,427). He was an active member in the SS, rising to the rank of Obergruppenführer. Since October 1930, he was Minister of the Brunswick State Parliament. Alpers was twice temporarily suspended from the SS in 1933 following complaints of excessive violence made against him during the Nazi takeover of Brunswick. Minister of the Free State of Brunswick After the Nazi seizure of power, Alpers became Finance and Justice Minister of Brunswick on 8 May 1933 (a position in which he served until 1934) under the Ministerpräsident Dietrich Klagges. Along with Klagges and Friedrich Jeckeln, Alpers was one of the main persons responsible for the Gleichschaltung and persecution of political opponents in the Free State of Brunswick. Rieseberg-murder Subordinated to Alpers was Klagges "Hilfspolizei" ("Auxiliary Police"). This force was directly answerable to Klagges and consisted of SA, SS and Stahlhelm men. On 4 July 1933, Alpers was directly involved in the Rieseberg-murder of eleven communists and labor organizers in Rieseberg, about 15 miles (24 km) east of Braunschweig. | ![]() ![]() | |||

(Added by Pietrzak Youngs) Initially trained as a bomber observer and assigned to I./KG 153 at Merseburg. Observer with 4./KG 2 in 1939. Flew in Poland campaign, destroying three trains. In France campaign his crew shot down two Morane 406 fighters and took part in low-level strikes. On an early mission over England, 1940-07-11 his Dornier 17 was shot up by Hurricanes near Harwich. Bornschein, radio operator Ofw. Werner Borner and flight engineer Fw. Friedrich Lohrer were all wounded. The bomber’s pilot, Joachim Genzow, who later won the Knight’s Cross, escaped injury. After recovering from his wounds, Bornschein was sent to Flight Training School A/B 3 at Guben, where he trained as a pilot. Promoted to Oberleutnant in November 1940. Late 1941 he returned to 4./KG 2 on Dornier 217 E. Bornschein attacked industrial targets, port facilities and shipping, sinking two merchant ships totaling 9,000 tons. Led 4./KG 2 as Staffelkapitän from June 1942 to February1943. Promoted to Hauptmann. In early 1943 Bornschein assigned to Flight Training School A/B 3 as a company commander. May 1943 he was transferred to the Führer-Kurierstaffel as Staffelkapitän. In April 1944 the unit was based in southern Germany, as nighfighters. On the night of 26-27 April 1944 Bornschein intercepted British bombers attacking Schweinfurt. he shot down a Lancaster III of 106 Sq., ND853 "ZN-J", 15km WSW of Schweinfurt, but was then shot down himself. Bornschein was killed, along with his radio operator Stbfw. Wilhelm Steurer (who had been a member of Bornschein’s crew in KG 2) and flight engineer Fw. (Added by Pietrzak Youngs) Bode's flying career began when he joined the German Air Transport School, a covert military-training organization, operating as a flying school in Germany. Bode rapidly rose to become a flight instructor there. Bode joined the Luftwaffe in 1936 as reservist, and became First Lieutenant (Oberleutnant) on June 1938. He showed a strong natural ability as a pilot. Bode was appointed Gruppenkommandeur of III./StG 77 on May 1940. After various assignments in France, Britain, Balkans and on the Eastern front. Bode was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on October 10, 1941, and in 1942 was given command of the Stuka group training to be used on the (never completed) German aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin. From here he moved to training and liaison with the Bulgarian Army. In 1938/1939, he went on to become a reserve officer in the anti-aircraft artillery regiment in Greifswald. In August 1939, he was appointed to the Department of the flak-teaching regiment in Hamburg. At the beginning of the war, he was transferred to East Frisia as adjutant to the Headlamp (Searchlamp?) Regiment 1. In May 1940, he began his training as an observer at Großenhain. In June 1941, he was deployed to the eastern front. After being promoted to first lieutenant, he was awarded the Knight's Cross on 14.03.1943, after operations in France, England, the Balkans and Russia. From Mid-1943 he received a training at the pilots school A/B 41 in Frankfurt / Oder and at the pilots school (C) 6 in Kolberg. In 1944 he attended the blind flying school in Copenhagen. After being retrained in IV/KG 6 on the Ju 88 and Ju188, he joined Stab/KG-6. On 02.06.1944 to be assigned as an ia (?) officer. On 12.08.1944, he was given command of the III./ KG 6, which was at that time to be a booster in Ahlhorn and flew against the invasion front. On 19.10.1944, the order for the reclassification of KG-6 was ordered and Baasner sent to Breslau-Rosen to train as a fighter pilot. The III/KG-6 was then in Prague-Rusin and was refitted sparingly on the Fw 190. On 31.01.1945, the III group was named " Schwanen Gruppe", the first Me 262 element of the squadron. But the new deliveries of the Me 262 did not come until March 1945. In March / April Baasner left the III. Group, which is now III/KG(J)-6, and took over the leadership of I/KG (J) 54, which was also in Prague-Rusin. At the end of the war, he was captured with the remains of his group in Graz, from which he was released. Baasner flew over 300 reconnaissance missions. Attached to HQ of KG 101 until the beginning of March 1944, then assigned to the staff of the General der Kampfflieger.
