His 10th, a Hurricane in the London area on 8 September, 1940. His 15th, a Spitfire near Portland on 7 October, 1940. Shot down 4 Spitfires on 4 July, 1941. His 39th & 40th, both Spitfires SW of Bergnes on 8 July, 1941. Six Spitfires on 9 July, 1941. Nos.48, 49 & 50, two Whirlwinds and a Hurricane N of Cherbourg on 4 September, 1941. Local reports stated that machine gun fire was heard in the district just before the crash, however no fighter of ground units reported any contact, therefore the loss was attributed to "other causes. Remaining crew (all KIC): Lt Rudolf Frase, Observer, Ogefr Alois Ille, wireless operator and Ogefr Siegfried Harz, gunner. The entire crew of four were killed in the scattered wreckage. With the exception of Harz, the crew are buried in Darlston Road Cemetery, Carlisle. It is not known where Harz is buried. | ||||||
