Sauers body washed ashore near Whitby on 30 October, 1939 and he lies in the German Military Cemetery at Cannock Chase, Blk 3, Row 12, Gr364. Although Lange is said to be an Ofw, he appears to be wearing a Navy uniform in a picture of he and Hochstuhl in captivity. The photo may be applied to the wrong crew or the identifications on the photo (pg 22 Broken Eagles I) are reversed. Lange and Hochstuhl were the first German fliers captured on British soil during WWII. | |||||
