On 15 September, 1940, his Wk# 1586 was sd by Spitfires of No.152 Sq., piloted by F/O Peter Geoffrey O'Brian and P/O Arthur Roy Watson, and crashed at sea SE of Portland, Dorset. He and the Observer were rescued at sea by German ASR, and three others are "missing at sea" and memorialized at the Laboe Naval Memorial.
