Tkacik, another Slovak pilot. Alternate spelling: Gerik, Geric. Added: From 04-06/1943, he underwent retraining and training for Bf 109 E. From 23/06/43, he was deployed on the Eastern Front. After training for Bf 109 G at Sarabuz airfield in Crimea, he operated from Anapa airfield. Officially, he achieved 9 confirmed kills of Soviet aircraft on the Eastern Front (2x Ilyushin Il-2, 1x LaGG-3, 4x A-20 Boston, 1x Supermarine Spitfire, 1x Bell P-39 Airacobra). The credibility and number of his kills is still the subject of debate among aviation historians. (CK) On September 11, 1943, he took off from the Anapa airfield. Gerič flew together with Martiš for the escort flight of the Fw 189 recce machine. E of Novorossiysk, they got into a duel with a group of Soviet Spitfire fighters. Geric broke away from the duel with the overloaded machine and landed at the Timashevskaya airfield, where he surrendered to the Soviets. Š. Martiš returned to Anapa alone. The Fw-189 returned to its base badly damaged, flying on only 1 engine. The injured pilot managed to land, but subsequently succumbed to his injuries, as did the other two crew members. In the Soviet Union, Gerič underwent intelligence training and shortly afterwards was dropped over central Slovakia in 07/1944. However, he was detained by the Germans and then imprisoned in Bratislava. He was later released and, at the request of the Minister of National Defence, General Čatloš, was to establish contact with the advancing Red Army. In 08/1944, he and Lieutenant Šingliar flew in a Praga E-39 aircraft to Tri Duby Airport. However, the plane crashed near the village of Ladce. Both crew members probably died. (CK)

Test flying of mainly dive bombers (up to ten hours/ day). After the failed assassination of Hitler her husband and she were arrested along with others in the Stauffenberg family. In 08/44 she was released on demand of Hajo Herrmann due to her important war effort in test flying. Her death is surrounded by secret and conspiracy. On 08/04/45 On 8 April 1945 she flew in direction of Schönberg - perhaps to rescue her husband - and was bounced by a P-51. Eye witnesses stated that she managed to belly land but later died of injuries in the hospital in Straubing. On the other hand there is a conspiracy theory: there were matching no US fighter claims while another eyewitness who helped Melitta Stauffenberg out of the wreckage claimed that her injuries were merey a broken leg and nothing life threatening (a possible Gestapo involvement in her death?).
