Prior to being taken down by ground fire, his ac had probably been damaged by a Hurricane of No. 56 Sq., piloted by S/L Graham Manton. Pilot buried CC, Blk 1, Row 11, Gr 44 (or 444 per Luft Graves UK) (Bf 110 Loss List & D.Drury). Added: Jäckels a/c was attacked by Spitfires first and hit in both engines. In his process of gliding the crippled 110 he was shot at by Flak. After hitting the ground the 110 began to burn. Since Jäckel was quite tall his harness straps were not well adjusted so he hit the panel and lost conciousness. His desperate Radop couldnt free him from the cockpit and had to leave him to the burning wreck. Jäckel was with his 19 years one of the youngest pilots in the unit. (CK) | ||||
