V1.01 Data derived from many sources. Perfection is our goal: Corrections and Additions are encouraged and requested. Please Email us

35,000+ Entries in Database (as of October 2025): largest in the world
The only authorised publication of the Kracker Luftwaffe Archive: anything else has been stolen and infringes my copyright.

Please email us any photos you have. We will acknowledge you in the database unless requested otherwise.
This is a non-political research resource. The authors of this material do not condone hatred in any form,
neither do they support oppressive and despotic regimes or political systems. See our Statement

There is a rogue group of copyright infringers who have stolen a much earlier version of my data - from at least 10 years ago - and have the affrontery to publish that, along with using my name, on their poorly researched website. They claim this is the 'original' Kracker Archive, a ridiculous claim since my Archive has been in a state of continuous development for over 30 years and nobody - NOBODY - has the original. They have no right to use my name or my data and readers who come across this nonsense should do nothing to encourage theft of this nature. I am outraged by this blatant theft and misrepresentation of my lifetime's work. The ONLY person I have ever authorized to publish my data and use my name is Kelvin Youngs, who earned my trust and respect many years ago and is authorized by me to publish my work on whichever website he organizes, currently this being its present home at the highly respected Aircrew Remembered.

Committed suicide 3 September, 1944 near Bougnies-Mons-Maubeuge France.

Friedrich Alpers (25 March 1901 – 3 September 1944) was a German Nazi politician and SS-Obergruppenführer. He was also a Minister of the Free State of Brunswick,[2] and Generalforstmeister (General forest supervisor). Alpers was responsible for numerous political crimes in Brunswick. Alpers committed suicide in 1944, while in US custody. NSDAP and SS career Born in 1901, Alpers studied law and political science at the Heidelberg University, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and University of Greifswald. He became a lawyer in 1929. In June 1929, Alpers joined the Nazi Party (NSDAP membership number 132,812). In May 1930 he joined the Sturmabteilung (SA). On 1 March 1931 he joined the SS (membership number 6,427). He was an active member in the SS, rising to the rank of Obergruppenführer. Since October 1930, he was Minister of the Brunswick State Parliament. Alpers was twice temporarily suspended from the SS in 1933 following complaints of excessive violence made against him during the Nazi takeover of Brunswick. Minister of the Free State of Brunswick After the Nazi seizure of power, Alpers became Finance and Justice Minister of Brunswick on 8 May 1933 (a position in which he served until 1934) under the Ministerpräsident Dietrich Klagges. Along with Klagges and Friedrich Jeckeln, Alpers was one of the main persons responsible for the Gleichschaltung and persecution of political opponents in the Free State of Brunswick. Rieseberg-murder Subordinated to Alpers was Klagges "Hilfspolizei" ("Auxiliary Police"). This force was directly answerable to Klagges and consisted of SA, SS and Stahlhelm men. On 4 July 1933, Alpers was directly involved in the Rieseberg-murder of eleven communists and labor organizers in Rieseberg, about 15 miles (24 km) east of Braunschweig.

Originally in the 26th Infantry Regt., he transferred into the Luftwaffe in January, 1940. He graduated from Bombardier school and served with notable pilots such as Fw Becker over England, Uffz Hugo Greeven over England, Uffz Dries along the French Coast, Heinz Gericke (where Ludwig was designated as AC Commander, even tho he was not a pilot) over England, the French Coast and Russia, Lt Heinz Bussemer in Russia, Oblt Plümecke in Russia, and the most numerous (251) with Uffz Ludwig Denz in Russia. Altho nominated three times for the RK after his 400th mission, 4 October, 1943, his recommendations kept getting overlooked, even tho 400 was the acceptable number for bomber crews. 427 combat missions. In November, 1944, he was promoted to Oblt., and served in the 9th Paratrooper Regt, 15th Combat Engineer Company. A 4th RK recommendation was submitted by his Paratrooper Commander.
