| 1 | Assmuss, Bruno | Uffz | 13(Z)/JG-5 | Bf 110F-2 Werk # 5048 "TI + LA" (lost 9/4/42) | Destroyer Operational Clasp | KilledInAction (KIA) 4 September, 1942 along with R/O, Gefr. Erwin Härtel; crashed at Lipatanaapa, Finland due to engine failure. Found dead in the wreckage by Russian partisans, but gravesite unknown to officials (Rune Rautio). Alternate spelling: Assmauss (Bf 109 Loss List, microfilm roll #7). Added, extracts from a Pasi Olkkola, of Vuotso, Finland, email 2/27/2025, seeking crew disposition: The ac was on a transfer flight from Pori to Kirkenes, when it seems the pilot attempted an emergency landing in the marshlands south of Saariselka. "This airplane was dismantled, moved to the shore of the nearby Kopsus River, and transported by raft, to the nearest road. The people who moved it, said there were bones in the area." "One of the planes engines had suffered bearing damage, and partly because of this, the plane crashed". (A) women's shoes and a women's wristwatch were found at the crashsite". In 1990, Pasi interviewed two witnesses. One said the bodies were retrieved; the other said there were no bodies. Help appreciated! Added: The crew are commemorated in the German War Cem. at Norvajärvi, Finland, altho their bodies are not there (K.Mikkola/Pasi Alkkola 3/2025). |
