Leuze was paralyzed on his left side by flak splinters in his back. The Radop placed the seriously injured man over the exit flap with his life jacket on, the life jacket valve open and his arms folded so that the draft of the free fall would pull his hands to the side and the parachute would have to open. Unfortunately, during this work, the radio operator's parachute opened while he was still in the plane. But he was lucky, stuffed the parachute together with both hands and was able to leave the plane safely. Hanging on the parachute, he shot a signal with the flare gun that had been agreed upon with Hptm Berger, so that he too, knowing his crew was safe, was the last to leave the machine. Leuze and Anders survived the war (CK)
