He crashed a Ju 88 into the North Sea off Duinkerken Holland on 3 June, 1940, no further detail. He lost a 2nd Ju 88 at Schiphol Holland on 23 June, 1940. WIA with two other crew, Ofw Kurt Fiebig, Obs and Fw Herbert Wiegand, Gnr, 28 June, 1943 during an enemy bombing raid at Alghero (Ju 88 Loss List). In late 1944, he was promoted to General der Kampfflieger. After being taken prisoner at the end of the war, he was released in 1948. Deceased 9 August, 1981 Goslar.
