He was the first RK holder in the far North (Luftflotte V). Shot down with wounds by a Spitfire on 11 September, 1943 in Fw 190A-5 Werk # 1171 near Rouen. On 10 October, 1943, he was seroiusly wounded and served with Training Schools and later specialized in the R 4/M rockets. 307 combat missions. 25 Victories in the East. One known victory, his 1st, a Morane 406 35 km northeast of Tournai, 16 May, 1940. His 2nd, a Spitfire I over the Thames Estuary, 28 May, 1940. His 3rd, a Spitfire at Dover on 29 May, 1940. His 4th & 5th, both Hurricanes, believed to be of # 43 Sq., south of Dieppe, 7 June, 1940. Nos.6 & 7, a Hurricane at Brentwood and a Spitfire S of Gravesend, on 31 August, 1940. His 8th, a Hurricane at Southend on 24 September, 1940. A Spitfire at Canterbury on 28 September, 1940 which may have been unconfirmed. His 9th, a Hurricane at Tonbridge on 30 September, 1940. Transferred to 1/JG-77 after an offense with an officer. Serving in 7/JG-2, he downed a B-17 on 8 March, 1943. Bowers/Lednicer, 57 victories. Deceased 1 August, 2006 in Troisdorf (CK). |
