On the return flight from an Intruder Mission over England, Alt spotted a dinghy in the water below and circled while the R/O sent out a distress signal to Air Sea Rescue. To the horror of the He 111 H-5 "5J + KS" Werknr 3883 , 8/KG-4 (A.Rosseels) crew in the dingy, the wingtip of the Ju 88 hit the water, sinking immediately, and taking the crew with it. The entire crew perished. Remaining crew (KIC): Uffz Hans Georg Suckow (geb 09/07/1920, Gumbinnen), R/O and Uffz Erwin Willi Korn (geb 11/10/1920, Bitigheim), Gunner.
