His 2nd & 3rd, both Spitfires at Themsemündung on 5 September, 1940. His 4th, a Spitfire at Canterbury on 5 October, 1940. His 5th victory, a Spitfire northwest of St. Omer, 5 Feb., 1941. His 38th, a Mosquito 15 km southeast of Den Helder on 9 May, 1943. His 42nd, a B-17 ENE of Bremen on 8 October, 1943. As Kdr I/JG-44 (9/44), he suffered a serious crash in an Me 163 during its development. He was the first Luftwaffe pilot to shoot down a Russian aircraft on the Eastern Front, an I-16, 22 June, 1941, when he was in JG-3. He was flying a Bf 109. He was shot down 14 August, 1941 possibly by the Soviet Ace, Lt. Vasily Demyenok. Known to have flown the Fw 190A-5 in July, 1943. Bowers/Lednicer, 41 victories. Deceased 29 October, 1988 in Munich.

On 27 September, 1942, he was uninjured when Wk# 5569 crashed near the Woensdrecht Holland airfield, a Fw at the time (DeSwart). One known victory, his 11th, a Spitfire piloted by F/Lt M.M.Shand, 5 km northwest of Waarde Zeeland, on 28 November, 1942. His 12th, a B-24 on 27 January, 1943. A 13th, a Ventura on 4 April, 1943. His 14th, a Ventura 3 km south of Haarlem on 3 May, 1943. His 15th, a B-26 80 km west of Noordwijk on 17 May, 1943. Added: He was uninjured in Wk# 140622 in a crash at Zwaardijk, Callantsoog on 4 March, 1943 due to enemy fire (SGLO). |
