No crew detail. He was initially buried in Amsterdam, Nieuwe Ooster Bergraafplaats, 21 August, 1943. Earlier, he was uninjured 12/13 June, 1943 when he was shot down by a Beaufighter of RAF No. 604 Sq., piloted by S/L J.N. Howard-Williams. His Ju 88 crashed into the North Sea by Petten, off the Dutch coast (DeSwart & Wiki Luft). Remaining crew: Oblt Ludwig Blankenhahn (WIA), Obs; Fw Rolf Lampmann, Gnr (WIA) and Ofw W. Tonne, R/O (Safe) (Wiki Luft data & D.Drury). Added: 3(F)/122's 2000th mission took place on 15 June, 1943 with Zabiensky and Tonne. Blankenhahn and Lampmann missed this milestone due to their injuries on the night of 12/13 June, 1943. Ofw Zabiensky is now buried at Ysselsteyn, CT/12/300 after the 20 August, 1943 incident (D.Drury). |
