Why do you mention a person's Jewish heritage?

Solution

On some of our databases you may see the Star of David against an individual's entry.

The jewishvirtuallibrary.org makes the point that during WW2 Allied servicemen of Jewish extraction would usually disguise this from their official records in case the serviceman fell into the German's hands, when their fate would have been certain.

They make the point that as a consequence a myth might have arisen that Jewish people didn't take part in the fight.

We add the Star when we are informed that an individual was Jewish so as to reflect their participation, despite the additional risk they still undertook that should they have become captured, they could have been exposed.
