Search help:

Why do I see some database entries with Names in brackets?

Solution

You might see examples such as these:

O'Neill (Oneill)

O'Sullivan (Osullivan)

L'Estrange (Lestrange)

You can ignore what is in the brackets. The only purpose of the brackets is to enable you to find an entry correctly.

Owing to security issues, our database search program does not recognise the apostrophe (')

So if you searched for O'Neil the software would ignore the (') and just search for Neil, the result being all the O'Neil entries could never be found.

Our addition of the bracket entries ensures your searches work correctly even with the apostrophe included.

IF YOU FIND A NAME IN THE NAMES LIST FOR YOUR DATABASE WHICH DOES NOT SHOW UP IN A SEARCH, PLEASE SEND US A TICKET VIA THE HELPDESK, SO WE CAN CORRECT THE DATABASE
