Rolls of Honour: Non-Dutch RAF Aviators Killed in Dutch RAF Squadrons

The aviators under this heading were colleagues and friends of the Dutch aviators in the Dutch RAF Squadrons 320, 321 and 322. When non-Dutch aviators were killed or went missing together with their Dutch collegues, their names have been mentioned in the chapters above. That leaves the following airmen. Author feels that their names should at least be mentioned.

1. F/O. Harris, William Hale, RAF VR 131784, of 320B Sqn. Killed 12/4/1945, no details available yet. Buried Burnley Cemetery, Lancashire, GB, grave A/3072.

2. F/Lt. Hunter, Donald James, RAF VR 150142, 322 Sqn. Born Upminster, Essex, GB. He fatally crashed with a Spitfire on his Varrelbusch base, Germany, on VE-Day, 8/8/1945, during the Victory Flypast. After a full enige failure he glided in, but stalled when he had to evade a truck on the airstrip. He was married with Betty Jean Hunter of Phoenix, AZ, USA. His age was 22. He is buried in Becklingen War Cemetery, near Soltau, Niedersachsen, Germany, grave 11/C/4.

3. F/O. Norman, Kenneth, RAF VR 148549. He joined 322 Sqn on 18/4/1945, and had a fatal crash after engine failure on 23/4/1945 with Spitfire Mk. XVI Nr. TB627. He flew from RAF Varrelbusch, B.113, Germany. He is buried in Sage War Cemetery, near Oldenburg, Niedersachsen, Germany, grave 5/D/12.

4. W/O. Miller B.Sc., Donald Philip Glyn, of Cardiff, GB. RAFVR 1256688, Observer in 320B Sqn. Killed 16/2/1945 by a Flak shell splinter in Mitchell Mk. II FR145 NO-P from Melsbroek, Belgium, during a raid on the road junctions at Weeze, Germany. His age was 24. Buried Woensel Gemeentelijke Begraafplaats 'De Oude Toren', Eindhoven, NL, grave RR/33. The aircraft returned and landed at Eindhoven airfield: Pilot, P/O. H. Moore, RAF 189420, injured, perforated wound to left shoulder, taken to 52 Military Field Hospital (MFH); P/O. R.L. Jennings, AG, RAFVR 189350; F/Sgt. H. Perlmutter, Nav, RCAF R163334; F/Sgt. K.F. Marston, WOp/AG, RAFVR 1267814 Safe.

5. LAC Risley, Bertie, of New Southgate, Middlesex, GB. RAF Nr. 1526082, groundcrew with 320B Sqn. on Melsbroek, Belgium. Died 25/03/1945 at the age of 36. Buried Brussels Evere, grave Nr. X/20/8

6. Sgt. Swinnerton, Henry; British, RAF VR 1827820, airgunner in Mitchell Mk. III HD392 NO-A of 320B Sqn. Killed 28/3/1945 over Siegburg, Germany, by a Flak shell splinter. Buried Brussels Evere, grave Nr. X/20/4. The three other crew, all non Dutch, were taken POW after an emergency landing: F/O. Haers, Belgium; F/O. E.M. (Marcel) Verhulsel, Belgium, and P/O. A. Slater, British.
