REASON FOR LOSS:
Taking off at 14:40 hrs. The squadron were taking part in formation flying when BG902 appeared to lag behind, but had not reported he was in trouble.
Burnt out wreckage was later found east south east of the base
Burial and personal details:
P/O. Alan William Asmuss. Halfaya Sollum War Cemetery. Grave 22.E.9. Born on the 13th May 1921 at Auckland. Prior to service worked as a clerk for Smith and Brown Ltd in Auckland. Enlisted at Levin on the 09th February 1941. Trained in Canada and further conversion trains with 59 Operational Training Unit Received his pilots badge 01st September 1941 together with his commission. Son of William Neale Asmuss and of Elsie Asmuss (née Gibson), of Epsom Auckland, New Zealand. 298 solo flying hours logged with 100 on the Hurricane.
