REASON FOR LOSS:
On a solo flare path landing practice. Dived into the ground and caught fire on a second approach to Wheaton Aston at 03:10 hours. The pilot lost his life.

Sgt. Edward Charles Hibbs Doherty. Shawbury Churchyard (St. Mary The Virgin). Row 20. Grave 2. Born on the 08th October 1917 at Methven. A salesman for Richard Arthur Ltd. Enlisted 06th July 1941 at Levin. Son of Thomas Spearing James Doherty and of Gertrude Annie Doherty (nee Hibbs), of Tauranga, Auckland, New Zealand. 180 flying hours logged with 107 solo and 84 on the Oxford.
