REASON FOR LOSS:
During a training exercise and after completing a dummy attack on an army column struck trees while pulling up in a climbing turn. The Hurricane pilot was killed when the aircraft dived into the ground at 12:00 hrs and caught fire.
Burial details:
P/O. Ian Hamilton Irvine DFM. Wittering Churchyard (All Saints) Row B. Grave 1. Son of Francis Andrew Henry and Felicia Lillian Irvine, of of Howick, Auckland, New Zealand. A very experience pilot with 572 flying hours logged, 99 of these on this type. Had taken part on at least 105 operational sorties.
