REASON FOR LOSS:
On a solo training exercise. Whilst carrying out steep turns at 400 feet, lost height, stalled and spun into the ground north of Oxford at 14:40 hrs.

LAC. Denis Charles Joseph Mooney. Andersons Bay Cemetery. Grave 1-3.156. Born on the 06th October 1917 in Dunedin. Educated at St. Kevin's College in Oamaru. A journalist for the Evening tar in Dunedin. Enlisted at Rotorua as a pilot under training on the 08th March 1942. With No. 1 Elementary Flying Training School on the 02nd May 1942. No. 1 Service Flying Training School on the 25th July 1942 for training on the Oxford. A total of 75 solo hours with 34 on the Oxford.
Son of James and Anne Mooney, of Dunedin, New Zealand.
