Search help:

What is Boolean logic in searches?

Solution

Read Search Tips for a full explanation of all the search possibilities on our site.

Boolean logic is named for the English mathematician who devised a new form of algebra providing searches for AND, OR, and NOT for example.

A search for 'cat' would find pages that mention 'cat'

A search for 'dog' would likewise find pages that mention 'dog'

A search for 'cat OR dog' would find pages that mention either 'cat' or 'dog'.

'cat AND dog' would only find pages containing BOTH 'cat' and 'dog'

'cat NOT dog' would find pages that mention 'cat' but NOT 'dog'
