How do I translate foreign text into English

Solution

You have probably noticed the Translate button at the foot of every page does NOT include the option to translate into English.

There are at least 2 parts of the site where the dominant language on the page is not English. The Archiwum is written in Polish by Andrew Mielnik about the Polish Air Force in the UK, and many parts of the LOST Archive remain in the original Dutch as written by our colleague, the late Rob Philips. There may well be more foreign language texts in the future.

There is a way to force the Translate button to provide the option to translate into English

(1) First select another language to translate into (it doesn't matter which)

(2) Then you will find 'English' miraculously appears as an option in the Translate button, at the top of the list, so select it.

This Translate facility is provided by Google and only they can control how it works, so we are stuck with the above suggestion.
