Search help:

Why are images missing from some of the pages?

Solution

During maintenance on our servers, we were removing duplicates of images that had accumulated over the years and were not being used on any of the site's pages. These were now causing us a little confusion and were possibly impacting performance.

Unfortunately, we made a technical error in configuring this activity with the result that some images were inadvertently deleted which were, in fact, being used. These are represented on the site by the blank image icons you see on some of our pages.

We have all these images: none has been lost. But the links between the image and the story are what are missing in some cases. We are restoring links systematically.

Because of the nature of the error, we have not been able to find a way to programmatically restore images. We have to do it by hand. This will take some time. As the person who made the error, it is my punishment that I undertake this laborious task.

If you need to see images on a page you are looking at, please contact us via the Helpdesk, and will prioritize the page you are looking at.
