REASON FOR LOSS:
During a 'Ramrod' operation in the morning, the two Typhoons collided.
Sadly F/O. Markey was killed whilst F/O. Avery Charles Dunning J/10158 RCAF flying EK134 was taken PoW. Camp Stalag Luft Sagan PoW No: 2015.

Another Spitfire was shot down on the same operation. Fl/Lt. Julian Kazimierz Żuromski P/0350 flying Spitfire Vb BL436. Taken Pow and held at Berlin-Steglitz (Stalag 3D) but escaped captivity to Czechoslovakia. Whilst there he fought with the underground until the arrival of allied troops.
Burial details:
F/O. Vincent James Markey. Avekapelle Churchyard. South-east corner. Son of James H. and Lilian Edith Markey, of Glasgow. Grave inscription: 'Dearly Beloved Son Of James And Lilian Markey Of Glasgow, Scotland'.
