512770 Flt Sgt E.A. Shipman was granted a commission and promoted to Plt Off. with effect 1st April 1940. London Gazette 21st May 1940.

Promoted to Fg Off. with effect 1st April 1941. London Gazette 16th May 1941.

Promoted to Flt Lt. with effect 1st April 1942. London Gazette 19th May 1942.

He was awarded the AFC as an acting Sqn Ldr. London Gazette 1st January 1945. There is no Squadron or unit associated with this award.

He retired as a Sqn Ldr. but retained the rank of Wg Cdr. in the Reserve with effect 9th December 1959. London Gazette 15th December 1959.

Edward Andrew Shipman obtained a Royal Aero Club Aviators’ certificate on the 6th October 1933 at the Wiltshire School of Flying. He was recorded as an Air Mechanic and took his certificate on a Redwing Genet.
