During the ramming, his canopy was torn off and he bailed with P-51s in hot pursuit. He opened his chute late, landing near a farmer. 200 meters from him, landed Uffz "Pimpf" Erhard with a knee wound. On this same day, Kuring lost two other friends, Ofhr Hans Damran died in his chute from a stomach wound. Ofhr Lüdecke thought to have died in an explosion when he rammed a B-17.
