Polish Airforce Memorial Committee Honour Aircrew Remembered

At an award ceremony on Saturday 5th September 2015, Kelvin Youngs founder of the Aircrew Remembered website, was honoured for his “deep commitment to honouring the memory of Polish Airmen”. A certificate of Commendation was presented to Kelvin by Group Captain David Manning Commanding Officer RAF Northolt.

Richard Kornicki, Chairman of the Polish Airforce Memorial Committee said:

“The Commendation is to commemorate your long standing commitment and support. This has been evident for many years through your maintenance of the Aircrew Remembered website which has grown into a source of immense value to public and scholars alike”.

Kelvin, along with his volunteers, for many years has voluntarily put in an enormous amount of their own time to set up the Norfolk based website which aims to record and maintain information on all lost airmen of all nationalities and from every theatre of war.  As Kelvin says “we have over 650,000 individual records at various levels of detail, but, of course, there are millions more still to be recorded. We encourage you to be inspired, and to fully explore this site”.

Aircrew Remembered are always looking for new volunteers to join in with our research, no experience required, just the commitment to expand the huge databases that we make available to everyone. Perhaps you have specialised in researching a particular squadron or aircraft - contact us, your research could be online, with full credits to you, within hours. The rewards with the number of contacts we would receive from your work simply make it all worthwhile.

Above a snapshot of the 2015 event - ever increasing numbers now attend every year - if you would like to attend next year, contact us and we will provide details for you as and when they become available.

We do know that next year the ceremony will be held on the Saturday, 3rd September 2016 at 12:00hrs.

Veterans or descendants wising to be added to the Squadron wreath-laying roster should contact the Polish Airforce Memorial Committee.
